KARACHI:
Some three decades ago, in December 1992 to be exact, a group of extremist Hindus attacked and demolished the historical Babri Masjid in Ayodhya, India. About a week ago in Bhong, a town near Rahimyar Khan in Pakistan, a mob attacked and destroyed a Hindu temple. Just as the desecration of Babri Masjid saddens us Muslims, a similar pain must have been felt by those believing in Hindu faith.
As far as my limited knowledge of world religions is concerned, I believe that respecting all religions and protecting religious freedom is at the core of every religion, let alone Islam which is the religion of peace, love and respect and lays much emphasis on coexistence.
Keeping this in mind, we must again acknowledge what our Quaid’s vision of Pakistan was. Where are we heading as a society? Are we following what we have been taught by our heroes? Are we becoming a nation which our role models have dreamed of? The answer is obvious, and I assume that we all come to realise it sooner or later.
