KARACHI:
PM Imran Khan’s recent visit to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa received little to no coverage by the local media. His visit to the Shaukat Khanum Hospital in Peshawar to mark the completion of the project went completely unnoticed. I wonder whether his visit to the hospital was not mentioned because it may not have been considered “news worthy”.
We are already aware that Imran Khan initiated the project by raising funds in a private capacity. His internationally recognised personality drew considerable attention from around the world when he first embarked on building a cancer hospital in Pakistan. We witnessed world-renowned personalities — including Lady Diana, Liz Hurley, Boney M and many other superstars from India — visiting the hospital in support of Imran Khan’s selfless venture. Furthermore, it was the first ever paperless hospital established within the country with a “user-friendly hospital management information system that was developed in-house”.
The institution showed the world that people can set aside their differences and come together for the sake of humanity. Any achievement relevant to Shaukat Khanum is never just Imran Khan’s achievement. It is the collective achievement of all Pakistanis.
