Low-cost housing technology

Letter July 30, 2021
Low- and middle-income families are struggling to meet their daily necessities in the wake of rising inflation

KARACHI:

Majority of the developing countries around the world are faced with the challenge of providing adequate shelter to all their citizens. Homelessness has become a real concern for many countries including Pakistan where there is an estimate of 20 million homeless people. Statistics reveal that 35% of the overall population lives below the poverty line.

Low- and middle-income families are struggling to meet their daily necessities in the wake of rising inflation. Therefore, it is important that the relevant authorities adopt innovative, cost-effective and environment-friendly housing technologies for the construction of houses and buildings. This will allow people to be able to construct houses at an affordable price. A recent study has revealed that construction costs can be reduced by 20% to 30% if we use low-cost housing technologies as opposed to traditional construction methods.
