Deadly fourth wave

KARACHI:

Pakistan is once again faced with a surge in Covid-19 cases due to the latest delta variant, which has been spreading rapidly across the country. The situation in Karachi is particularly alarming as the metropolis where the Covid-positivity rate has jumped beyond 25%. On Monday, this figure was 26.32% in Karachi.

Following the spike in cases, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed the authorities in Karachi to impose a ban on all movements after 6pm. Unfortunately, many citizens continue to question the legitimacy of the restrictions and display negligence towards the prescribed SOPs. Sadly, the current situation could have been easily avoided had people taken earlier warnings of the new variant more seriously and strictly followed the SOPs. It is important to understand that if the current situation is not handled effectively, it can spiral out of control and create a disastrous situation, such as that in India. We must comply with the restrictions imposed by the Sindh government so that the ongoing fourth wave subsides. The sooner this happens the better.
