Now the fourth wave

It is imperative to heed advice of our health experts and follow safety guidelines even after you are vaccinated

KARACHI:

This is with reference to Kamal Siddiqi’s article “Now the fourth wave”. Around me, vaccinated people are increasingly testing positive for Covid-19. The problem continues to be the country’s low vaccination rate that is putting all of us at risk. In the US, a lot of states have vaccinated up to 70% of their population, which has helped them return to a state of normalcy. However, the number of population that is vaccinated in our cities is nowhere near the recommended percentage. And yet, we are throwing away caution and suffering the consequences in the form of the fourth wave.

It is imperative to heed advice of our health experts and follow safety guidelines even after you are vaccinated.

I would like to share an example of how easy it is for this virus to take advantage the moment we lower our guard. Recently, my colleagues and I threw a farewell party for one of our friends. Only those who had been vaccinated were allowed. On the day of the party, we received a message that one of the invitees, who had recently returned from Skardu, tested positive for Covid-19. We got lucky that he was tested before and not after the party. This should be a tale of caution. Please don’t lower your guard for your sake and for the sake of your loved ones.
