KARACHI:
Turbat is in grave danger. Even though it has been over a month since Covid-19 cases have been rapidly increasing in the region, the concerned authorities haven’t taken any serious action against the flouting of SOPs as of yet. It is because of such negligence that the spread has now endangered the lives of hundreds of thousands of people across the country. It seems as if things are back to normal as people can be seen shaking hands and hugging each other.
Pakistan has recently recorded a positivity rate of 6.43% — the highest in the last two months. According to the NCOC, 2,327 people have been tested positive for virus while 31 people have died in the last 24-hours (as of yesterday). Despite the government’s campaign to vaccinate as many people as possible against the novel coronavirus, only 3.5% of the population has been inoculated so far. Now that Eid is fast approaching it is a given that people will throng marketplaces and shopping malls. The situation will definitely exacerbate. Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health Dr Faisal Sultan has said that the upcoming Eidul Adha festival will be celebrated in a “limited, closed” environment. The officials must act now before it is too late.
I urge everyone to play their part in the fight against the deadly virus so that we all can have a pleasant Eid. We must wear our facemasks and follow other SOPs protocols in order to protect ourselves and those around us. It is requested that the authorities take strict action against irresponsible behaviours.
