KARACHI:
It was the same old story of civic troubles in Karachi during rains which have fallen twice during this week. Even though the amount of rain was not too much – just up to 5mm on Tuesday and up to 19mm on Thursday – it did cause quite a lot of disturbance in terms of inundated neigbourhoods, disruption in flow of traffic, prolonged power failures, etc. Cases of electrocution were also reported in the media. One wonders what if it had rained heavily. Karachi, the revenue engine of the country and its financial capital, does not deserve to be treated in such a step-motherly way. We, the citizens of this megapolis, have long been waiting for the day when we will genuinely relish this blessing of the nature rather than ruing it.
