Delta variant

Letter July 16, 2021
Instead of enforcing a vaccination policy, the government should review its guidelines and launch awareness campaigns to motivate the people into getting vaccinated on their own

KARACHI:

With the emergence of Delta variant of the coronavirus, the slow vaccine rate in Pakistan will put the country in hot waters. The forceful vaccination process may help the government vaccinate its subordinates by threatening to stop their salaries, but the same will not work for the common citizens. In fact, it will have quite the opposite effect by further strengthening the existing myths regarding the vaccine.

Instead of enforcing a vaccination policy, the government should review its guidelines and launch awareness campaigns to motivate the people into getting vaccinated on their own. This will help shift the prevailing paradigm. Failing to do so may lead to irreparable consequences during the rise of the powerful Delta variant.
