KARACHI:
Eid-ul-Azha is right around the corner. Cattle markets have been set up all across the country. People are flocking these markets in order to buy sacrificial animals. It is truly a unique festival in its own right and a form of entertainment for those who work hard all year around.
But this happiness is soon drawn away after people slaughter their animals. Piles of animal entrails and carcasses are found on the streets next to pools of coagulated blood. The odour released from the decaying filth is horrific, making it impossible for travelers to walk across. Every year is the same and the concerned officials, including those from the municipality, are nowhere to be found. Many a time, the area gets so dirty that people themselves have to move the filth to a nearby dumping area. This issue now needs to be addressed by the higher authorities so that cleanliness is maintained. There is a reason why we are different from animals.
