Preserve trees

KARACHI:

It is said that when you plant a tree, you plant a life. Trees are one of the greatest blessings of the nature for human beings. They have been playing an indispensable function in our ecosystem. They are the major source of two essential items for life — food and oxygen. There can be no life without the two. Apart from this, trees have a major role to play vis-a-vis the environment. They provide fruit, shelter, fresh air, and so on.

However, one regrets to note that we, human beings, have created and continue to create a lot of problems to the environment by cutting down the trees for personal gains. Business interests in nearly the whole world are connected with the wood obtained from trees. In the US, 57% of endangered species are plants, but only 4% of money used to protect species is spent on plants. As the population grows, the rate of extinction of flora increases because the demand for shelter and resources increases at the same rate. Furthermore, loss of trees and other vegetations has a huge adverse impact on climate change, and thus the mankind.

I, therefore, request everybody to take care of trees, as trees take care of us. It should be our duty to plant more and more trees to preserve the environment. Relevant authorities should do all to prevent tree from being cut because they are an integral part of our ecosystem and the survival of many living creatures depends upon them. Save trees, save the Earth.
