KARACHI:
PTI’s third budget was recently passed by the National Assembly. Leader of the Opposition Shehbaz Sharif as well as many members belonging to PML-N and PPP did not show up for this important session. The members of the ruling party, however, were all present as it was critical for them to ensure the passing of the budget. The Finance Bill was passed by 172 votes in favour of the bill. The opposition asked for a recount, which the Speaker agreed to. The recount confirmed 172 votes.
Keeping with the tradition of the past, the opposition rejected the passing of the budget and started a controversy about being “robbed of their vote”. They also accused the Speaker of being partisan. This led to a futile debate on the media where both sides kept accusing each other of mischief. I wonder why our politicians don’t realise that people are completely fed up with the useless tirades that occur between the government and the opposition every other day. Their public display of badmouthing each other does not solve any problem and just adds to the public’s frustration. They should sit together to seriously strategise for the betterment of the country.
