KARACHI:
Rape is never the result of how someone dresses. Instead, it needs to be considered as a power crime. Unfortunately, according to our Prime Minister, the onus is on women for getting sexually harassed. He thinks that men aren’t robots if they won’t be enticed by how a woman dress.
What the PM doesn’t realise is that women in an abaya, men in shalwar kameez and innocent boys and girls in their regular clothing are harassed on a daily basis. Imran Khan needs to know that his statement has hurt the sentiments of women across the country, and they deserve a long-overdue apology.
Instead of saying what he said, PM Imran should’ve given a neutral response. Moreover, it explicitly looked from the interview that he hadn’t prepared any talking points and was rather spontaneous and brazen when he made that remark on women’s attire. He is a leader of our nation and his words greatly influence the masses. Therefore, he should be careful about what he utters since his last comment portrayed him as a rape apologist.
