KARACHI:
Gender inequality is a longstanding problem. Women’s lives are as endangered as ever, despite many voices being raised for them. According to the Global Gender Gap Report 2021, Pakistan ranks second last among eight countries in South Asia. Compared to 2020, Pakistan’s gender gap has increased by 0.7 % in 2021. Such statistics clearly indicate how the female gender is treated in Pakistan. As per the statics provided by Unicef, 22.8 million children are out of school, among which 60% are girls. This shows the poor state of our education system with regard to gender disparity.
It is about time that the government did something effective to close this gender gap. The government should ensure that women are paid equally and are acknowledged in the sectors they contribute to. The government must also make sure that women have equal privilege to contribute to different social activities. They must be socially empowered so that their voices and decisions are valued.
