KARACHI:
The third wave of Covid-19 is turning out to be far deadlier in our country. The number of people falling sick from the virus daily is increasing, apart from the number of daily deaths. Surprisingly, the public is not taking the situation seriously. They are not following the safety precautions like washing hands the way the experts have told us to, using face masks, and keeping a safe social distance. An overwhelming majority of people care a damn about avoiding the rush, like in shopping centres and public transport. Even those who are supposed to act as role models — like our leaders and public office holders — are themselves involved in violating the SOPs. For instance, the health minister in K-P recently attended an Iftar party in sheer neglect of the Covid SOPs.
While the vaccination process in the country is proceeding pretty slowly, the authorities must focus on getting the public comply with the SOPs. The federal government has taken a good step by using the armed forces to ensure public compliance with safety measures. It’s time for the public to cooperate.
