KARACHI:
As the curve in the graph of novel coronavirus cases continues to ascend, the blame game to apportion responsibility has also gained pace. Our political leaders, the media and medical professionals opine that the continued rise is due to a number of reasons: the return of overseas Pakistanis, public disregard to SOPs, weddings, gatherings in mosques and exposure of children in schools.
What is not being mentioned is the over-exposure of the general public in mass agitations, political jalsas and reception processions — all at the behest of political parties in their race to display their popularity. In the last few months, unchecked political activity and a total disregard of repeated calls from the NCOC to reduce mass gatherings have played a major role in increasing the positivity ratio across the country. I wonder why the media is shy of calling a spade a spade. It is about time that we start putting part of the blame on irresponsible, unconcerned and selfish politicians.
