KARACHI:
By and large, every country in the world is struggling to get its population vaccinated against the coronavirus. While some countries lack finances to purchase the vaccine, like our very own Pakistan; some others, like Canada, are not positioned for priority delivery. Some of the countries are also struggling due to their large populations. However, there is one country that’s worth emulating in the context of inoculation. We’re talking about Bhutan where nearly 95 per cent of the population has received anti-Covid jabs.
A small country though, in terms of population, Bhutan has made noticeable efforts against the pandemic under King Jigme Khesar Namgyel. However, despite having vaccinated the bulk of its population, the authorities are not being complacent and continue to enforce all necessary precautions to keep the virus from rebounding – as evident from the words of Bhutan’s cultural preservation analyst Mende Thuji Yangden who has cautioned his countrymen about the new variant of the virus that has emerged in India. “Despite the success we made, Bhutan is not safe until their neighbor [India] is safe too,” says Yangden.
