KARACHI:
While wise nations pay special attention towards their education and health sector in order to ensure socio-economic development, Pakistan is a country where the state of education is extremely dismaying and deplorable. According to the Human Rights Watch, around 22.5 million children are currently out of school in Pakistan amid the pandemic — with girls outnumbering boys. Furthermore, the State Bank’s recent startling report shows that almost 29.5% of the population lives below the poverty line.
Apart from state institutions, I believe individuals can play a vital role in this regard. Considering these appalling circumstances, I firmly believe that change is possible if well-off individuals start sponsoring the cost of education for at least one needy child by sending them to school. I myself was sponsored for my higher education. Resultantly, I am able to lead a good life. Such acts of kindness can pave the way for a poverty-free society. It is high time we realised our social responsibilities and played our role individually as well as collectively.
