Junk food

Letter April 17, 2021
A healthy mind resides inside a healthy body

KARACHI:

In order to remain healthy, one has to resort to sticking to a proper balanced diet. In this regard, fruits and vegetables are absolutely essential to nourish and clean the human body. Unfortunately, with the rise of consumerism, we have started to prefer eating junk food instead of good, healthy meals just because it is easy to cook, purchase and eat. Not everyone realises that junk food only tastes great because of the constant advertisements that bombard us on a daily basis. The use of tag-lines and vivid imagery seep deep into our subconscious and rewire our brain in a way that we find burgers and deep-fried chicken appealing. Even though the disadvantages of junk food are well known — fatigue, depression, laziness, memory loss thus leading to an inactive life — we cannot help but grab a quick bite in order to give our brain the illusory satisfaction it needs.

A healthy mind resides inside a healthy body. According to research, junk food contains fats, sodium, sugar, and a high number of calories. The essential vitamins and minerals the body needs are not fulfilled by junk food. The Food and Administration suggests that a diet high in salt enhances blood pressure which leads to obesity, heart attacks and other harmful diseases. In order to live a happy and healthy life, we should replace junk food with a nice clean mean that fulfills the body’s requirements sincerely.
