Gender discrimination

Letter April 13, 2021
Gender discrimination gets toxic in lower middle class where the sole purpose of a girl is to get herself married at an early age which deprives her of good education

KARACHI:

In Pakistan, gender discrimination is deemed normal. We have gladly accepted the roles our society has assigned to the two genders. Males are ought to get excellent education so they may land better jobs while most women are expected to mop the floors and scrub water stains off the tiles. It’s appalling that even in today’s modern world, some people still think of woman to a child-bearing and rearing machine and a 24/7 unpaid maid.

Gender discrimination gets toxic in lower middle class where the sole purpose of a girl is to get herself married at an early age which deprives her of good education and any other opportunities that she could have otherwise availed.

We need to stop for a moment and ponder if we are doing justice to a woman by keeping her confined to the four walls of the house and forcing her to do to everything inside the boundaries of her home-sweet-home that gnaws at her and sucks her blood dry. When will women be out of this oppression? We need to take this label off women’s foreheads. They equally deserve to have goals and be provided with opportunities to pursue and achieve them.
