TikTok and the youth

KARACHI:

The recent ban on TikTok by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has generated a lot of controversy in the country. TikTok popularity was increasing by the day before it was banned, but with great popularity comes great criticism. The cellphone app has been facing massive criticism from the public in recent times. The app was widely used by underage children to the sheer helplessness of their parents, most of whom struggled to stop their children from what has now become an addiction. In what is huge a waste of time, people of all ages, youth in particular, were spending hours on just scrolling and watching TikTok videos.

Having said that let me make it clear that I am not in favour of banning this app which is also providing a platform for the people to show their talent in areas like acting, dancing, painting, sketching and singing. Thus the same old saying that it’s the use of a gadget that makes it good or bad. I think the authorities should undo the ban and instead come up with a solution to regulate the app in such a way that its harmful effects are minimised to the lowest possible.
