KARACHI:
On March 17, the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) introduced a model paper for the upcoming annual board examinations of classes 11 and 12, while taking SOPs and protective measures into consideration. The model paper was supposed to be short, precise, and built to be finished by the students in under two hours. However, the reality is starkly different from what was actually intended. Not only is the model paper long, it is impossible for an average student to finish in within two hours — with 7 short questions, a 3-part long question, and 40 multiple choice questions to solve. The fact that it took the BIEK months of preparation to dole out this disappointment of a model paper only sheds light on the incapability of those in charge. This show incompetence has not gone unnoticed by the students and their parents who recorded their protest virtually across social media platforms. It is about time that qualified officials were appointed for revamping the education system from the ground-up.
