KARACHI:
Pakistan is rich in natural resources, yet these resources are drained due to gross mismanagement by the concerned authorities. The country has been under the leadership of pseudo-democrats and this is why no government has been able to steer the country out of multifarious crises.
Governments are elected with the assumption that they will be responsible for better governance and enhance the general welfare of society. Unfortunately, this is a distant dream in Pakistan. The problem lies in defective forms of governance that has been marred with loot and corruption for several decades. However, after having bitter experiences with nugatory government rule, we should think of introducing a technocratic form of government to save our country. Technocrats bring a reputational advantage in terms of keeping knowledge and national interests above selfish political and economic interests. They are driven by their rational problem-solving mindset and approach societal problems from the point of accurate knowledge and experience. They are willing to take bold decisions that will rescue our country enmeshed in economic and social problems.
The way our country is currently being managed has slowed down progress significantly. Therefore, drastic changes are only possible when technocrats are put in the driving seat.
