Quality education

Letter March 09, 2021
These are steps that would contribute to brightening the future of the nation

KARACHI:

Education plays a key role in socio-economic development of any nation. Successive governments have made attempts to bring educational reforms, but without achieving any sufficient improvement. Article 25-A of the Constitution binds the state to provide free and quality education to all children but quality education for all still seems a pipedream. Unqualified and incompetent teachers are among the main flaws in the education system that exists in the country. Besides, little or no use of modern technology in teaching and reliance on old techniques are worsening the situation. While the government has taken a commendable step by introducing a single national curriculum, it must pay urgent attention towards recruiting teachers on merit, providing them training and equipping them with modern teaching techniques. These are steps that would contribute to brightening the future of the nation.
