Role of teacher

Letter March 01, 2021
It is about time the government paid attention towards the plight of the teachers community and bring their salaries on a par with other professionals

KARACHI:

The role of a teacher in nation-building cannot be overemphasised. Teacher is a person who helps his students acquire knowledge, competence and virtue. It is the teachers who produce doctors, engineers, architects, lawyers, media-persons, politicians, soldiers, accountants, agriculturists, etc. They are thus the architects of a nation.

However, despite the important role the teachers play in nation-building, they are not accorded the status and position in society they deserve. Teachers are perhaps the lowest paid of all professionals in the country — whether associated with public educational institutions or those in the private sector. The government remains non-serious about giving the teachers their due, and working towards raising their standing in society.

It is about time the government paid attention towards the plight of the teachers community and bring their salaries on a par with other professionals.
