Online exam fiasco

Amid nationwide student protests regarding online exams, the government has left the final verdict up to autonomous universities

KARACHI:

Amid nationwide student protests regarding online exams, the government has left the final verdict up to autonomous universities. The demand for “online exams as classes were also being held online” is rather absurd. Holding classes and conducting exams incorporate two different mechanisms altogether. Exams must be held on campus to ensure proper examination ambience with strict SOPs in place. Needless to say, online exams ripen the opportunity for cheating, dishonesty and misconduct. Due to lack of proof and technology constraints, it will be almost impossible to ensure that students are taking the exam in the right circumstances.

Holding exams under virtual conditions would tarnish the learning process and give the students an easy way out. We must not encourage our youth to take shortcuts to success, especially when they are still in the learning phase.
