Manipulating the people

Letter February 15, 2021
After years of deceit, one realises that it is not the fake promises that is most surprising, but the fact that people still vote for these fake politicians

KARACHI:

The political leaders of Pakistan have always vivaciously displayed themselves as manipulators. When they desire to come in power, they manipulate the very people they are supposed to serve. Whenever elections are near, the fiery, sometimes even whimsical, speeches of politicians are continuously played on television news channels. They deliver fake and farfetched promises that are never kept. The incumbent government officials also suffer from the same disease. They so adamantly laid out the vision of ‘Naya Pakistan’ and promised to end the misery of the people. Instead, thousands more have been pushed into poverty due to rising inflation.

After years of deceit, one realises that it is not the fake promises that is most surprising, but the fact that people still vote for these fake politicians. In real life, two negatives do not equal a positive. Therefore, it is better not to vote in the elections rather than choosing a lesser evil.
