KARACHI:
During the last few decades, the climate crisis has brought about dramatic change all around the globe. Smoke-emitting vehicles have played a major role in environmental degradation. In 2013, transportation contributed to more than half of carbon emissions. Exposure to high levels of such pollutants can have adverse health outcomes as particulate matter in the air is single-handedly responsible for up to 30,000 premature deaths each year.
The transition of chemical emitting vehicles to environmentally friendly solar vehicles can play a significant role in combating the problem. If used on a large scale, solar-powered vehicles can help with environmental pollution. With eight to nine hours of sunshine per day, Pakistan is the ideal place to invest in solar power generation. Therefore, our government and higher authorities should move towards more sustainable technology. For this, engineers and designers should be brought on board to develop innovative methods using solar technology at the domestic level. These technologies then need to be made affordable and commercially available to the masses. This will not only help in the development of our country but also protect our natural environment.
