KARACHI:
The menace of child marriage has been growing in Balochistan, not just because of the lack of awareness but also because majority of the people are uneducated. It seems that the people have now fallen into this perpetual cycle where, instead of receiving education, social norms are thrust onto them.
According to recent reports, 70% of the girls in Pakistan are married off before the age of 16 while more than 50% of marriages are solemnised before the age of 18 — which is also one of the most common reasons for the increase of death rate in women during delivery. Children who are supposed to study, learn and observe the world cannot be forced into marriage, with or without their consent. This is a serious violation of their rights. In the light of the deplorable situation, I humbly request parents as well as the government to contribute towards containing such practices.
