KARACHI:
The province of Balochistan desperately needs a cancer hospital where patients can get adequate medical care. The facilities already present aren’t enough to cater to the ever-increasing number of cancer patients currently seeking treatment. It is reported that a meagre 20% of these patients are able to receive proper care while the rest are ignored, mainly due to the lack of facilities or medical professionals. Moreover, because of poverty and lack of awareness many are either not aware of the disease or are not able to afford treatment. Many a time, patients have no choice but to travel to Karachi or Lahore to seek medical attention.
It is the need of the hour for federal and provincial governments to set aside funds in order to build a proper cancer hospital in Balochistan. The people of this province are as much a part of Pakistan as the rest. We should be treated as equals.
