Road accidents

Letter January 28, 2021
An estimated 1.2 million people around the world are killed in road crashes each year

KARACHI:

The violation of traffic rules and regulations has become one of the major issues in the city of Karachi. It is very common for drivers to drive faster than the speed limit, even in populated localities. As a result, majority of the car accidents in the city occur due to speeding. An estimated 1.2 million people around the world are killed in road crashes each year while in Karachi alone more than 26,000 road traffic accidents occur every year.

In light of the aggravating situation, I request the officials concerned, especially the traffic police to enforce laws that severely punish violators in order to ensure safety. As in other developed countries where drivers are fined heavily for breaking rules, the same should be applied and implemented in Pakistan to overcome this problem.
