KARACHI:
Asma Jahangir was a human rights lawyer and activist who lived a fearless life and fought tirelessly for justice. She was a brave voice who worked for the oppressed and the vulnerable, without any prejudice and discrimination. She was an envoy of democracy, who worked tirelessly for the restoration of democratic culture and institutions in Pakistan. Despite facing prison, treason charges and even death threats, she remained steadfast in her fight to uphold human rights. She was the emissary of prosperity and above all an ambassador of peace.
Asma Jahangir’s personality was so encapsulating and strong that she was known as the Iron Lady, who stood firm against the foes of democracy, dictators and those who impeded the process of democratisation. She dedicated her life for the welfare of the poor and vulnerable. She is still alive in our hearts and her legacy will be remembered as a symbol of resistance.
