Growing corruption

Letter January 27, 2021
For those at the helm in Pakistan, it seems that the Constitution is merely words on paper while the rule of law holds no value whatsoever

KARACHI:

Pakistan has long been facing the grave problem of corruption that has threatened the fundamental foundations our society is based on. The situation in our country has become so severe that the evil of corruption has evolved into a self-sustaining system. It feeds on itself and, in the process, exacerbates many other problems such as political instability, poverty, inequality, unemployment and lack of accountability. It undermines democracy and hinders development.

Such a system acts as a bug that constantly sucks on the blood of the working class. For those at the helm in Pakistan, it seems that the Constitution is merely words on paper while the rule of law holds no value whatsoever. Therefore, in order to curb this menace, institutions should work towards creating a robust system of accountability which should be implemented with force and vigor.
