KARACHI:
Awaran, the third biggest district of Balochistan province, continues to suffer from an acute shortage of gas. The situation has turned even more troubling due to extreme cold these days. People are forced to make use of firewood for cooking and heating purposes. However, the irony is that even the firewood has become expensive and cheaper in quality. And with too much official focus on preserving the forest and cleaning the environment, the availability of the firewood is also an issue. People are not allowed to obtain firewood — and quite rightly so — but they have no other option to rely on. So if the government wants people to avoid use of firewood, it must ensure that gas is available in the district in the required quantity.
