Road accidents

Letter January 27, 2021
Most of the accidents happen due to reckless driving. Motorists don’t care about following traffic signals and road safety rules

KARACHI:

I would like to draw the kind of attention of the authorities as well as the general public towards the rising number of road accidents in almost every big town and city of our country which speaks of the deplorable state of road safety. The number of road accidents is increasing day by day, resulting in unnatural deaths as well as disabilities, as evident from the media reports.

Most of the accidents happen due to reckless driving. Motorists don’t care about following traffic signals and road safety rules. Pedestrians too tend to cross the road from wherever they want at the risk of their lives. There is, therefore, the need to take steps like imposing heavy fines and suspending the licence of offenders. While the relevant authorities need to be more stringent in issuing driving licence and getting traffic rules followed, the general public too must be careful so as to save their own lives and those of others.
