Need for trained teachers

Letter January 15, 2021
Unfortunately, the education sector in Pakistan is not being given enough importance

KARACHI:

It is well known that teaching is not just a noble profession but also the basic foundation of a well-groomed and developed society. This foundation depends on highly qualified, trained and capable teachers who are prerequisite pillars for raising education standards of the country thereby providing the youth with the opportunity and skills to build a prosperous future. A teacher is the one who drags the masses out of the darkness and into the light; hence the word enlightenment.

Unfortunately, the education sector in Pakistan is not being given enough importance. Schools around the country are devoid of basic necessities while unprofessional and incompetent teachers are being recruited. Even though Pakistan is currently dealing with a plethora of wicked problems, the top priority should be education. It is essential that the concerned authorities like the Education and Literacy Department radically change the structure of learning as well as the recruitment process. It should be mandatory for all aspirant teachers to give a written test prepared specifically for the purpose of teaching. Those who pass need to be given strict training as to how to physically and psychologically deal with children at their tender age. After the recruitment process is over, the government then needs to equip these teachers with the required resources so that they are able to carry out their duties efficiently. The very core of the structure needs to be re-vamped in order to bring about significant change.
