Covid resurge

Letter January 01, 2021
The authorities concerned must ensure that the public adhere to the social distancing protocols. Clerics must also collaborate with the state and help save lives

KARACHI:

Due to the raging Covid-19 pandemic, noted religious figures have — based on the advice of medical professionals — issued religious edicts that people can pray at home in order to avoid being infected or become a source of infection for others. But if people do go to mosques to offer prayers, they must following the prescribed SOPs and adhere to social distancing protocols so as to supplement government efforts to contain the spread of the deadly virus that has claimed more than 10,000 lives in the country.

According to media reports, a lack of compliance with the prescribed SOPs has led to the emergence of the second wave of the virus and a consequent surge in cases almost all across the country. The government must take firm action against those who are violating the SOPs. The authorities concerned must ensure that the public adhere to the social distancing protocols. Clerics must also collaborate with the state and help save lives.
