KAMBER SHAHDADKOT:
It does not take a genius to understand that corruption, a longstanding issue in Pakistan, has seeped into the very foundations of our state apparatuses. However, apart from systemic corruption through which certain powerful individuals are able to accumulate massive wealth, petty corruption in the form of bribery also remains rampant.
Even though the recent job announcements for the teaching and non-teaching staff in the Ministry of Education and Literacy has come as a relief for those that have had to face unemployment in the midst of an unprecedented pandemic, many challenges still persist in the recruitment process owing to corrupt elements present within the education department. The past several recruitment instances have shown that meritocracy was repeatedly violated in the process of recruiting teachers. The issue has not only impacted education in Sindh but has also dampened the confidence of youngsters who are looking to serve the country.
I, therefore, urge the concerned authorities to take all precautionary measures in order to uphold the merit system in Sindh. Teaching is a noble profession, and the hiring of professional and qualified teachers is a highly sensitive task. The government must invest time and money in education since it plays a significant role in building a bright and prosperous future.
