Rising violence

Letter October 29, 2020
Only by fostering an atmosphere of tolerance and openness where two different minds can voice out their contrasting opinions can Pakistan move forward

KARACHI:

The recent blasts in Quetta and Peshawar indicate that the scourge of terrorism is regurgitating. Amidst political chaos coupled with the fact that the federal government’s and opposition’s non-reconciling stances on issues such as national security are sidelined.

The cost of this is borne by the people, particularly those in Hazargung and Jamia Zuberia in this specific case. These two heinous events were lambasted by all those residing in the corridors of power. Thus, it is imperative now that all stakeholders along the political spectrum and the national security apparatus work in tandem to make sure that these instances are the last we hear of terrorism on our soil.

As for the families that have suffered, I have nothing to offer them but my heartfelt condolences. May God provide them with the fortitude to bear these losses! Only by fostering an atmosphere of tolerance and openness where two different minds can voice out their contrasting opinions can Pakistan move forward.
