KARACHI:
Paedophilia is a curse and must be dealt with an iron hand. Unfortunately, even though it remains a common practice in Pakistan, authorities have failed to take action despite the fact that it occurs under their very noses. In order to bring about awareness regarding the seriousness of the issues, there is a strong need to condemn this sadistic behaviour.
The most exposed children are the ones who are frequently playing, without supervision, in the streets or in parks. Therefore, while it is vital for parents to keep a strong eye on their child when they go out to play, it is also necessary to educate children on sex in order for them to protect themselves. They should be made aware of evil practices through the idea of good and bad “touch” and should not be forced into uncomfortable situations. Children who are victims of this dirty sin lead a difficult life as they have to deal with this trauma for the rest of their lives.
The scenario of Pakistan regarding child abuse is quite alarming for us. The horrors of child abuse have been given due coverage in the media through Zainab case and the Kasur scandal, but more should be done to highlight the lusty practice of paedophilia. Besides, harsh punishments, in accordance with Shariah, should also be considered.
