KARACHI:
Bad governance in the form of rampant corruption, nepotism and bribery continues to persist to date in majority of the institutions in Pakistan. Not only do such illegal practices decelerate progress and development, but they consequently lead to a myriad of many other social problems such as inequality and discrimination.
The main reason for the emergence of such a situation is lack of accountability, and the city of Karachi, where the jungle law prevails, seems to be the epitome of it. The city is emmeshed in a plethora of multiple civic and governance crises where everyone fights for control and power, since Karachi singlehandedly generates the most revenue.
But while the situation may be somewhat extreme in Karachi, the prevalence of many illegal practices across the country makes it impossible to bring about significant change in the system as a whole. In order for Pakistan to become a global economic force, Karachi in particular and the country in general needs to rid itself of these illegal practices once and for all.
