KARACHI:
Prime Minister Imran Khan’s address to the 75th session of the UNGA encompassed almost every major regional as well as international issue. He spoke with conviction and confidence, showing the international audience that Pakistan was serious in achieving all of its desired goals, while at the same advocating for peace and a better, more sustainable future.
He first highlighted that Pakistan had managed to contain the spread of deadly coronavirus by adopting the smart lockdown strategy, an achievement which earned him great international appreciation as it aimed at protecting both the lives and the livelihood of the citizens. He further discussed perhaps the most important global agenda, that of climate change, and called for a universal plan of action to ensure the survival of mankind. He rather keenly expressed his concerns over the ongoing wave of islamophobia in various parts of the world and particularly highlighted the miserable plight of the Muslims in India while advocating for the right of self-determination of the Kashmiris. He sensitised the international community to the gross human rights violations and war crimes committed by the Modi’s fascist regime in IIOJK and urged the UN to resolve the issue in accordance with the Security Council resolutions. In the last part of his speech, he expressed hope towards the fact that the intra-Afghan dialogue would be successful and that it would usher in an era of regional peace and stability.
Only a leader who is able to empathise with his people can have the ability to articulate important matters with such brevity and passion. The citizens are extremely luckily to have such an elegant and well-educated PM. In Imran Khan, Pakistan has finally found its knight in shining armor.
