Deprived of a library

Letter September 04, 2020
Demanding a library is a basic right as it is enshrined in Article 25-A of the Constitution of Pakistan

Education plays an instrumental role in developing the young minds of a society. Similarly, the presence of a library in a community makes for a conducive environment so that people, students in particular, are able to independently educate and enlighten themselves with ease and comfort.

The people of Daulatpur Saffan, a town of District Shaheed Benazirabad, however, remain deprived of a public library. The absence of a proper library has kept students away from education since they do not have adequate resources to carry out their research aspiration. Only the privileged class can afford to travel to Nawabshah and Hyderabad where they can easily use public libraries to meet their professional and educational needs. On the other hand, people belonging to the lower class are forced to indulge in other useless activities while a few start working from a young age.

A library and other relevant resources can significantly help in carrying out research projects which students can use when applying to different institutions that require professionally written papers for higher education. In order to create wide-scale awareness regarding the matter, the residents have also raised their voice on social media and started a trend on Twitter with the hashtag #Daulatpurdeserveslibrary, an initiative that has united the people towards a common goal. It is high time that the local administration, cultural departments and the federal education authorities to paid heed to this problem. Demanding a library is a basic right as it is enshrined in Article 25-A of the Constitution of Pakistan.
