Poor standard of education

Only then can we pave the way for a better and brighter future of our children

BALOCHISTAN:

In Pakistan, the Covid-19 crisis has exposed the poor standards of private schools across the country. The continued extension in the closure of educational institutions across the country has left the parents with no option but to teach their children themselves. Having talked to many parents about how they are dealing with the studies of their children during school closures, I came to know that it was a big shock for several parents to come to know of the poor education standard of their children. Some of them told me that their children were miserably lacking in the most basic subjects despite them paying exorbitant fees to their schools.

Instead of developing the students learning abilities and intellectual skills, these educational institutions have ingrained in them simplified concept and rote learning in order to toughen them up for the competitive corporate environment. This is a matter of grave concern because if children are taught that way, they won’t be able to think for themselves in the future, and instead will be trained to work like machines. Parents need to realise that changing schools will not solve the problem. They need to personally focus on their child’s development by analysing what they are being taught at school.

The problem of education needs to be tackled through concrete and collective steps taken both by the parents and the government. While parents do need to pay attention to the education of their children, the relevant authorities need to address the various issues related to schools and education. Only then can we pave the way for a better and brighter future of our children.
