Be responsible citizens

If we continue violating SOPs, the outcome in the next few weeks will be much more disastrous

ISLAMABAD: The coronavirus has had a crippling effect on people and businesses worldwide, but the situation has proved to be much more critical in developing countries like Pakistan, where nearly 25 million labouers and daily wager workers have been terribly badly due to lockdowns.

Our government was, therefore, left with no other choice but to ease the lockdown and open up certain sectors of the economy slowly and gradually in order to mitigate the effects of the lethal virus. In addition, the step was also necessary to save our tattered economy from crumbling completely. We now need to act sensibly and responsibly and ensure social distancing as the government alone cannot contain the spread of this highly contagious virus. Amid this unprecedented crisis, it is essential that we stand together with our government and collectively find a way to overcome the situation.

As citizens, it is our duty to strictly follow the prescribed SOPs at public places in order to curb the spread of the virus and flatten the infection curve. If we continue violating SOPs, the outcome in the next few weeks will be much more disastrous. We need to understand that if we are carriers of the virus then are loved ones are at a high risk of being infected. Our irresponsible attitude can lead to the death of thousands of innocent people. Therefore, citizens across the country need to restrict their activities to a minimum and take extra precautions when in public.
