Too late?

Letter June 04, 2020
Our fight is collective and we must overcome it together

ISLAMABAD: Over 4,000 coronavirus cases were reported in a single day yesterday bringing the nationwide tally to 80,000. There is no escaping the fact that we are in the midst of a crisis, which will surely intensify in the coming weeks. The harsh reality is that there is no time to think anymore; it is time to act.

All institutions within the country frantically need to prepare for the worse as healthcare institutions are bound to succumb under pressure. The rise in the number of coronavirus patients may very easily cause a great deal of panic among citizens in the weeks to come. Therefore, existing systems need to be used as fallback options as there is no longer time to introduce new ones. Arguing for or against the lockdown at such a crucial moment is useless and citizens need to start thinking for themselves instead of relying on the government for every single inconvenience even after knowing fully well what they are capable of. If you think that a lockdown needs to be imposed then you don’t need the approval of the government. Act accordingly and play your part in preventing further damage. Those who remain ignorant will soon come to a stark realisation that they have been living under a false reality that was conveniently being sold to them under the pretext of “the betterment of the nation” — an idiotic idea perpetuated in order to seek the consent of the people.

The enemy is ferociously attacking our citizens and we must do everything we can to protect each other. Stay alert, stay vigilant and reduce all activities to a bare minimum. This is the time to stay resilient and endure as much as we can. Our fight is collective and we must overcome it together. Remember, every cloud has a silver lining.
