Struggling to innovate

Pakistan hasn’t been kind to young entrepreneurs

KARACHI: Pakistan hasn’t been kind to young entrepreneurs who’ve had the drive, ambition and determination to strive for a better future. Regardless, these young entrepreneurs are headstrong in the face of an ailing economy and myopic leadership. Housing a population of 200 million, it is clear that Pakistan is facing major problems on multiple fronts. In the pursuit of earning a healthy living, majority of the citizens remain buried under enormous debt and spend most of their life trying to pay it off. Amid such tense conditions, constraints that young entrepreneurs face in the process is back-breaking. However, these young innovators remain steadfast and resilient. No matter what happens, they are not willing to give up on their dreams and aspirations.

Social media has played a significant role in facilitating the youth. There are several examples of young genius minds that have achieved great success and received recognition beyond borders. However, the government of Pakistan has had no role to play in this, even though they are quick to market it as their own. International platforms have tremendously aided Pakistani students and young freelancers by presenting them with the opportunity to not only earn some extra cash but also showcase their talents to the international community.

There is a dire need for restructuring the online entrepreneurial system as Pakistan has a lot of potential for growth. Therefore, the government, apart from assisting and promoting freelancing individuals, needs to invest in start-ups.
