India’s hegemonic designs

Letter May 30, 2020
Pakistan should employ all available international platforms to help raise its voice for the people of Kashmir

KARACHI: India’s nefarious designs in the region had their roots in its decision to revoke Kashmir’s semi-autonomous status on August 5, 2019, which paved the way for the passing of controversial CAA and NRC bills. Political analysts have drawn parallels between India’s expansionist and bigoted actions with those of Hitler who was obsessed with his Nazi’s Lebensraum rhetoric and carried out a mass extermination of the Jews.

Apart from igniting unrest and distorting the socio-political fabric of the country, Modi’s policies have also had a spillover effect on bordering countries as well. Countries such as Bangladesh have been adversely impacted and the border disputes between China, Nepal and Pakistan, threatened with false-flag operations, pose a dire risk to regional peace and security. The possibility of the escalation of conflict between India and China cannot be denied at the backdrop of the recent faceoff between them, given the fact that it had brewed a month-long war between the two countries in 1962. Even though the Chinese President aims to settle the confrontation through dialogue, India’s illegal constructions in the disputed Ladakh territory cannot be overlooked.

Amid such tense situations, Pakistan should remain steadfast in highlighting India’s grave human rights violations in the occupied valley that continue to surge even in the face of the coronavirus pandemic. Pakistan should employ all available international platforms such as the OIC and the UN to help raise its voice for the people of Kashmir. Moreover, the recent China-India border confrontation would give its case a strong stance that elucidates the blatant fact that if India’s actions are not curtailed, the whole of South Asia may suffer the consequences.
