IOK and Covid-19

Letter May 17, 2020
New Delhi needs to be held accountable in the international court for the crimes they continue to commit

MIRPURKHAS: It has been 280 days since India’s fascist leader blatantly stripped the rights of the Kashmiris by arbitrarily revoking the special status of Occupied Kashmir. Article 370 of the Indian constitution provides for an autonomous status to the part of Kashmir under the Indian yoke. This article, along with article 35-A, assured that the residents of IOK will live under a separate set of laws, including those related to citizenship, ownership of property and fundamental rights. However, since the revocation of the said articles, the valley has been in the brutal grip of the Indian security forces.

It is shameful for the world community to stay idle even after constantly receiving news about crimes against humanity being committed in the region. Women are raped, youngsters have gone missing while the elderly are brutally tortured. Through the mentioned constitutional measures, New Delhi plans to change the demography of Occupied Kashmir. This attack on the identity of IOK is an attack on all Muslims around the world.

Pakistan has been persistently knocking at the doors of the international community, but has so far failed to break its slumber. The prevailing coronavirus pandemic has ironically shown the world how it feels to be under siege. It is about time that the world acknowledge the rights of Kashmiris and urge the BJP government, led by Narendra Modi, to stop this genocide. New Delhi needs to be held accountable in the international court for the crimes they continue to commit.
