A single act of kindness during Ramazan can go a long way
KARACHI: The holy month of Ramazan is observed with pleasure, harmony and reverence by Muslims all over the world. During this auspicious month, many Muslim countries including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Oman reduce the prices of commodities and food items for the convenience of the fasting population. As a matter of fact, many of the Western countries, comprising large Muslim populations, also show respect for this holy month. They support their Muslim community by offering discounts and several “Ramazan deals” which prove to be incredibly economical for everyone.
The situation in Pakistan, however, is quite the opposite. People here prefer to increase food prices in order to earn more profit. Unfortunately, many Pakistanis think of this month as an opportunity for financial gain rather than a chance to enhance their spirituality. This results in problems, especially for people belonging to low income groups as they find it difficult to even afford basic commodities.
It is important that we, in our country, give the poor some relief during this holy month by lowering prices and donating to those in need. The authorities concerned seem to be completely oblivious about the whole issue due to which these behaviours and practices have been persisting for a long time. The authorities need to ensure that the prices of essential items are regulated during Ramazan.
Furthermore, different organisations need to come together and create a charity fund for the purpose of providing food and other essentials to the needy. A single act of kindness during Ramazan can go a long way.
