Understanding decisions

Letter May 14, 2020
It seems people have not understood real purpose of the govt’s decision of easing the lockdown

LARKANA: It is important for citizens to understand the context of every decision made and every action taken during the Covid-19 pandemic. Since the crisis has encapsulated the whole world, all individual significations need to be abandoned.

I say this because it seems that the people have not understood the real purpose of the government’s decision of easing the lockdown. Instead, people have taken this opportunity to plan out Iftar gatherings and dinner parties, both of which have been banned till the end of Ramazan. Our need for social interaction is so inherent within our nature that we are willing to risk the greater cause for our own personal pleasures. With coronavirus cases in the country nearing 35,000, it is about time that citizens understood the importance of these unprecedented regulations. Easing the lockdown does not mean that all activities and gathering can resume as normal. The threat has not even reached its peak. Instead, regulations have been lifted so that necessary institutions, organisations and businesses are allowed to operate in order to keep the economy running so that systems within the country remain functional.

The citizens need to realise what is at stake and abide by protocols announced by the federal and provincial governments. It is extremely necessary to understand the importance of such actions so that we are able to develop a collective consciousness and act accordingly.
